LGBTQIA+ & Mental Health Trainings

I bring an honest and personal approach to my trainings.

I find that people learn best when they are comfortable with the person they are learning from, so I start by sharing a bit about myself. I educate in efforts of empowering others to use their new or continued knowledge of LGBTQIA+ needs to support this community in their personal and professional lives.

I offer trainings for businesses, organizations, healthcare providers, schools, local government and first responder departments, informal groups, and more. I have provided trainings in various sectors including:

  • Psychiatric hospitals and mental healthcare organizations including McLean Hospital, HRI Hospital, and Casa Esperanza Inc.

  • Local public safety and police departments as a Crisis Intervention Training educator.

  • Brookline Public Health Department as an invited panelist.

  • LGBTQIA+ Terms & Identities 101

    Do you ever feel intimidated by LGBTQIA+ language and pronouns? This training goes over the ever-changing LGBTQIA+ acronym and how to define, understand, and use queer terminology appropriately. I provide education on pronouns, what role pronouns serve for queer and transgender people, and how to use pronouns correctly.

  • LGBTQIA+ Affirming Treatment

    Healthcare providers often interact with clients at some of their most challenging moments. Unfortunately, providers often misgender or ask inappropriate questions of queer and trans clients, a community that has a notable difficultly accessing healthcare. This training focuses on affirming queerness in treatment, rather than invalidating or overreacting.

  • Mental Health Needs of Young Adults

    Young adults navigate enormous transitions, made even more complicated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Many mental illness first appear during late adolescence and early 20s. This training can help parents, educators, healthcare providers, and public safety departments understand the nuances of how to support young people.

  • Mental Health of LGBTQIA+ Populations

    I use the minority stress model to examine the risk factors faced by LGBTQIA+ communities, and acknowledge how risks of harm are increased for those with intersecting marginalized identities. I share what I’ve learned from my years of experience working with this population in a high level of mental healthcare and provide local and national resources.

  • LGBTQIA+ Affirming Language Use for First Responders & Public Safety Departments

    This training covers LGBTQIA+ language, mental health needs of the LGBTQIA+ community, and explains why using a person’s correct name and pronouns is essential regardless of circumstance. I provide opportunities for practicing non-threatening approaches and using pronouns that may be unfamiliar.

  • Understanding LGBTQIA+ Experiences, for Parents of LGBTQIA+ Youth

    When a child or loved one comes out as part of the LGBTQIA+ community it can feel confusing, and even scary. In this training I answer questions about queerness, explain what the coming out process can be like, discuss how to support a child or loved one, and offer resources for continued learning and community support.
